Basic Skincare Do’s and Don’ts

Getting beautiful and fair skin isn’t a matter of magic. It’s a matter of how constantly you take care of your skin and choose the right product for your skin type. As the skin is the largest organ of the body, it’s very important to take care of it. Getting into a skincare routine can be challenging, especially if you are new. Maintaining daily skin care is the very first step towards skin health. You might get questions on your mind about what to do and what not to.

Do's

1. Do Invest  in Good and Quality Skincare Products

Don’t expect to get the result with the bad and quality less skincare products. We recommend you use good quality skincare products. We would like to point out that expensive products don’t necessarily mean it’s better. You can find expensive brand products, they might not do much for your skin. Sometimes you might be just paying more because of the name on the packet. Just be aware, research, or ask experts regarding skincare products.

  2. Do Drink Plenty of Water

As your skin is the largest organ that covers your body, we can say a dehydrated body may result in dehydrated skin. Therefore, it’s essential to drink plenty of water daily to keep your skin hydrated, a minimum of eight glasses of water is recommended in a day. Drinking plenty of water maintains a healthy complexion of skin and flushes out the unwanted toxins from the body.

3. Do Wash Your Face TWICE a Day

Washing your face is an essential part of Skincare. Wash your face in the morning and at night before going to bed. Do not wash your face before going to the gym or before your planning to have a shower.

4. Do Wash Off your Makeup

You don’t want the makeup soaking into your skin and clog your pores, it may lead to breakouts. You can remove off your makeup at the end of the day or after a night out. But Make sure all of your makeup is properly removed. It might be difficult to remember if you’re tired or had a busy schedule but if you try and get into the routine it is best for your skin.

5. Do Exfoliate Gently

Regular exfoliation is essential if you are dreaming of having glowing and healthy skin. Irrespective of your skin type, exfoliating once a week can bring a new life to the skin. It removes the dead cells from the skin’s surface and keeps the pores clear away from black and whiteheads. Never use an exfoliator that is too rough, it may leave your skin dry, damaged, and irritated.

6. Do wash your hand before washing/touching your face

This has to be mentioned, still, most of the people are not aware of it. Many people still are not making a habit of washing their hands before washing their face or cleanse their face. You never know what is on your hands. You don’t want the germs and bacteria to get on your skin as it may cause breakouts.

7. Do Consult with your Aesthetician or Dermatologist

Many people easily get caught up with what celebrities recommend or what friends and family use. That is a very bad habit that most people are developing. It is recommended to consult with your aesthetician or dermatologist about what products you should be using, as they are educated in this field. Good aestheticians truly have the best interest in mind.

Don’ts

1. Don’t keep on Touching your Face

It’s very tough to control, many of you have heard not to touch your face, especially if you have a blemish. In our society, it is believed that the more you touch the more it takes to be cured. The truth behind it is that the more you touch the face, the more problem will arise, breakouts can happen because of the unclean hands that might be full of germs and bacteria. It can act as fuel for the blemishes. Always try keeping hands off your face as far as you can.

2. Don’t Take Hot Showers

Hot showers are considered less than ideal for the skin, even if they are immensely soothing and relaxing. The skin’s natural moisturizer balance may be disappointed by a hot shower. Natural oils and Proteins that keep skin healthy can also be stripped. This may also result in inflammation, redness, dryness, and itching. To protect the skin, avoid taking too many hot showers.

3. Don’t use a Body Scrub on Face

It’s a terrible idea to use body scrub of the face. It is heard that most of the people are using the scrub on face looking at the familiar word “SCRUB”. As the skin of our body is a lot thicker than our face, it can handle more intense scrub but our face cannot. Our delicate faces cannot handle the harshness of such body scrub. It causes damage if used, in some cases, it might cause serious problems.

4. Don’t forget to Moisturize

It is found that a lot of people forget to moisturize their skin. Moisturizer is the best thing that you can incorporate into your daily routine. It hydrates the skin, even if your skin is oily, it still needs to be hydrated. Whatever your skin is dry, oily, combined, etc. find the right moisturizer for your skin type and apply it daily.

5. Don’t skip applying Sunscreen

Sunscreen should never be kept as an option, it’s a priority for all skin types. Sunscreen helps to protect skin from the sun and its UV rays. Overexposure to UV rays can end up doing numerous damage to the skin. This is why it’s so vital to make sunscreen a part of the skincare routine. It is recommended to apply sunscreen thirty minutes before leaving and reapply every two hours to get better protection from UV rays.

6. Don’t Neglect Neck and Décolletage

Most people when comes to skincare focus on the face, it’s very important to remember that neck and chest are also on display. The skin in these areas is the same as the face, thinner and more susceptible to damage. Just make sure to moisturize, exfoliate and wear sunscreen on these parts of the body.

7. Don’t Over-Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a huge accumulation on the skincare routine. Exfoliation makes skin soft and supple, but over-exfoliation leads to damaged skin causing problems like dryness, irritation, etc. and nobody wants that. Whether using physical or chemical exfoliants, you need to give the skin time to rest in between the treatments. Exfoliation one or two times per week is completely sufficient for most skin types.
